What Is Locktober? The Meaning, the Rules, and How to Do It Right
Keyholder and chastity educator · safety first, shame free chastity guidance.
Locktober is an annual month-long chastity challenge, held every October, mainly among men in the kink community. Participants either remain locked in a chastity device or commit to abstaining from orgasm for all 31 days. There is no official rulebook; each individual or keyholder defines their own terms.
That's the short version. The honest, useful version takes a little longer, and since I lead a guided Locktober every year, I'll give you the real one.
What is the true meaning of Locktober?
The term combines 'lock' and 'October.' For a month, what is usually yours to touch is not. Many wear a chastity cage for the month, often under the supervision of a keyholder who controls when and if the device is removed. Others participate without any device, relying solely on their honesty.
Before you search further, it helps to know the word has picked up a gentler second life on mainstream social media, where some creators use the hashtag for content that has nothing to do with kink. If you arrived from that side of the internet, welcome, and now you know what the original means.
Where did Locktober come from?
Locktober grew out of online chastity and female-led kink communities in the 2010s, alongside similar observances like No Nut November. Nobody owns it, and nobody can point to a single founder. It spread the way good internet rituals spread: people tried it, talked about it, and came back the next year with friends.
What are the rules of Locktober?
There are no official rules, and anyone selling you a stone tablet is improvising. However, the community commonly follows this structure:
- Locked in chastity or orgasm-free from October 1 to October 31.
- No touching, no edging, no release on your schedule. If a keyholder is involved, any permitted moments happen on her terms, not yours.
- The device remains on except for cleaning, safety checks, and any pre-agreed exceptions during the month.
- If you slip, you own it honestly and continue. One bad day does not ruin the month.
In My challenge I add one rule the internet usually forgets, and it matters more than all the others: amnesty. If you break, you tell Me, you re-lock, and you keep going. Shame is not a training tool. It is the reason most quit.
Do you need a chastity cage for Locktober?
No. A cage makes the month tangible and real, and most long-term players eventually want one, but the honor system still counts. Denial is a choice made before it is a device. If you're new, an honor-system October teaches you far more than a hurriedly bought, poorly fitted cage ever will. If you decide to get a device, purchase it early, get the sizing right, and use September to test fit it in daily life. A well-fitted cage disappears into your day. A poorly fitted one becomes the only thing you can think about, and not in the fun way.
Is Locktober safe?
For a healthy adult using a properly fitted device and maintaining proper hygiene, wearing a chastity cage through October is generally low risk. The essential safety rules are simple: nothing should ever go numb, tingle, change color, or stay painful. Remove the device regularly for cleaning. Fit matters more than material. Any persistent problem means the cage comes off and stays off until it is solved.
Anyone claiming a month locked is completely risk-free is selling something. Anyone who calls it inherently dangerous has usually never done it. The truth lives where it always lives: in fit, hygiene, and honesty with your own body. I will cover the health questions in much more depth in a separate guide.
Locktober vs No Nut November: what is the difference?
No Nut November is about not finishing. Locktober is about not being in charge. NNN is mostly a solo willpower bet that lives in memes. Locktober, practiced seriously, is surrender: someone else holds the key, sets the pace, and shapes what your October looks like. Plenty of men roll straight from one into the other, and November feels completely different once October has trained you for it.
How do you actually complete Locktober?
Most people who fail do not fail from desire. They fail from boredom and lack of structure around day nine, when the novelty is gone and nobody is watching. Based on My experience running this challenge year after year, this is what gets men through the month:
- Structure: a daily ritual, even a small one, keeps the month meaningful. Thirty-one days of nothing but waiting is how you end up unlocked on a Tuesday for no reason.
- Accountability: someone who notices. A keyholder, a partner, a community. Being seen is most of the magic.
- A pace you chose honestly: locked all 31 days and nights is the full practice, but a beginner who plans real exceptions in advance outlasts the hero who promises everything on October 1 and quits by October 6.
- Amnesty, agreed in advance: decide now what happens if you slip: honesty, re-lock, continue. The men who finish are not the ones who never stumble. They are the ones who did not treat a stumble as an exit.
When does Locktober start?
October 1, wherever you are. Most participants lock the night of September 30 or the morning of October 1 and unlock November 1. The committed ones spend September preparing: choosing their rules, testing their devices, and deciding who holds the key.
That last decision, who holds the key, is the whole difference between a month of gritting your teeth and a month that changes how you think. If you want your October guided instead of left to chance, that is exactly why I built the Locktober Challenge: a free daily ritual from Me, every morning of October, amnesty included, paced to what you can take. It begins October 1. Put your name on the list below and I will take it from there.
